According to stories passed down, these determined parents took to the streets of Thomasville, GA, and Cairo, GA, knocking on doors and connecting with other families facing the same challenge. They asked a simple question: “Would you trust your child to attend this program?” Their “yes” became the birth of Thomas Grady Service Center.

In the early days, there was no government funding. Money came from the parents’ own pockets and from community donations, which kept the doors open. Over time, the program grew into a thriving community resource, serving adults with developmental disabilities with dignity, compassion, and purpose.

Throughout its history, TGSC has had four locations: first near downtown Thomasville, then on property near Southwestern State Hospital, and finally two locations in Thomasville and Cairo. The Cairo office closed during COVID-19, but the agency continues to proudly serve both communities from the Thomasville location, which now houses two buildings that support a variety of programs and services. We also support people in Community Residential Alternative living, Community Living Supports in people’s homes, and Supported Employment.

Today, Thomas Grady Service Center stands as a testament to the vision and sacrifice of those early parents, offering person-centered services that promote independence, inclusion, and a true sense of belonging.
